Chapter 17. Welcome to the Jungle
Finding themselves in a sudden downpour, the party immediately sought cover. Finding a nearby cave and determining it was unoccupied, they set up a makeshift camp for the night and awaited a break in the rain. After taking a moment to recover, they noticed some changes in the group makeup. Astronom had vanished, only to be replaced by a human wizard who identified himself as Ortus. When questioned, he said he could only remember approaching some ancient ruins before seeing a flash of light and arriving in the jungle. Ogmog also appeared changed- much sturdier in appearance, he professed having a vision during the short time he was dead, describing an imposing figure in a chariot drawn by fearsome stallions. Disoriented and unable to do anything about the changes, the party settled in for the night in the safety of their cave. Though a few scuffles broke out between certain individuals, the rest of the night was uneventful, the group resting until the rain finally let up.
Hearing the end to the thunderstorm, the group ventured out and began looking around. The night sky revealed no familiar constellations, and a search of the general area revealed nothing of importance. Under Sabi's suggestion, the group set out in search of water, believing that any town or city would be found near it. The group headed north and soon came upon a slow river. Upon arriving the group decided to take a short rest, and set up a makeshift camp at the riverside. Aiden started a fire and began boiling water, while Dorina set up a complex trap for fish in the river. Upon Ogmog's request, Sabi set out in search of something more fresh than travel rations, hunting upriver in search of live food.
Instead of finding the hoped for deer or boar, Sabi came upon what appeared to be a sleeping horse on the other side of the river. At first ignoring it as inedible, before the ranger passed out of sight she discovered the creature was sobbing, with what appeared to be very human cries. Crossing the river for a closer inspection revealed the creature to be a wounded Centaur, not a horse. The creature had been shot many times by small darts, and though Sabi quickly removed the projectiles, the Centaur was still very weak and incomprehensible. Sabi did her best to soothe the panicked creature, and slowly assisted her back to the camp, where Ogmog and Bastius looked her over further. After a short interrogation, it was discovered that Aurora- the Centaur- had been attacked by 'boxes' (boks), which had killed all of her clan and had left her very badly poisoned. She was heading towards the city of Silva Domus, in the hope that an alchemist there could heal her. Though they tried, the party was unable to stop the poison, so they agreed to help the injured Centaur to her destination. Dorina ran ahead, and quickly reached the city, coming upon two Eldarin guards, who commanded the halfling to stop and identify herself. Dorina quickly did so and explained the situation, providing a pair of the darts Sabi had removed from the Centaur as evidence. The alchemist was quickly summoned, and examined the poisonous darts, soon providing a cure for the poison. Dorina ran back to the rest of the group, and provided Aurora with the alchemist's cure. After only a few short moments, the wounded centaur was fully recovered, giving a happy whinny and kicking at the air. Relieved, the group continued on towards Silva Domus, eager to find answers as to their location or reason for being deposited in the rain forest.
The group was soon interrupted though- a band of Boks ambushed the party before they reached the safety of the city. Though surprised and outnumbered, with Aurora's assistance the adventurers easily and quickly defeated the attackers. Looting the bodies and recovering an interesting assortment of magical items, the group resumed their journey to Silva Domus...
