Death claims Syrin and Alderick

A werewolf.

After meeting back up with Pengarond, the adventurers continued into the ruined fortress, Fort Lanton, marching on through the night. Before long, they came upon a grove of trees, and sensed a group of creatures lurking inside. Rushing in, the group began the attack against the fearsome lycanthropes. At first, the adventurers seemed to be winning- but disaster struck, when an enemy sorcerer emerged and engulfed Syrin and Alderick in flames. The two soon died, but luckily the sorcerer vanished, and the rest of the team was able to finish off the lycanthropes.

Shocked at the deaths of their companions, the survivors returned to Sparrowdale with the corpses. The defeated spirits visited the companions in their dreams (and in the form of small, not-so-cuddly animals), and a cleric at the church, Pastor Clerwell, was able to return the defeated spirits to their bodies. Though the cost was high, Syrin and Alderick were back on their feet. Angered at their defeat and wanting revenge, they were also greatly shaken, and spent many days back at their shop, roughing out the fine points of the business, and hiring additional help.

It wasn't long, however, before rumors reached their ears of attacks on merchants traveling south to Aspenwood. Investigating further, they spoke with Elizar and Wilton at the Merchants Guild. The team discovered that large greenish creatures were attacking the caravans, and stealing or smashing anything they carried. Offering their services to protect the trade route, Elizar agreed to pay for each head the team brought back to him. The team soon set out with a caravan, and shortly before reaching Aspenwood, they were attacked by a pair of trolls. Having learned much from their earlier defeat, the team managed to defeat the attackers, and triumphantly decapitated their foes.

After looting the corpses and burying them, the team continued south into Aspenwood...
